Description

Why use an external cold junction reference?

Internal cold junction compensation in thermometers, scanners and data loggers is often the dominant source of uncertainty, commonly in the range of 0.5°C to 1.0°C and sometimes higher.

TRU² provides a stable, uniform and traceable reference temperature, typically enabling cold junction uncertainties better than ±0.1°C. This simplifies uncertainty budgets, improves confidence, and allows the full performance of precision EMF measurement instruments to be realised.

TRU² is available in three configurations to suit different channel counts and laboratory layouts.

TRU² (base unit)
Direct access to the reference well without a connector panel.

TRU² 50
Front panel fitted, supporting up to 50 double junction thermocouples.

TRU² 100
Front and rear panels fitted, supporting up to 100 double junction thermocouples

Termination Options

TRU² (base unit) provides the 0°C reference block only, with no connector panels fitted. TRU² 50 can be supplied with customer-specified connections on one side of the unit, supporting up to 50 double thermocouple junctions. TRU² 100 provides connections on both sides, supporting up to 100 junctions. Connector type and layout can be customised to suit individual laboratory or bench requirements.

• Screw terminals, suitable for 0.2 mm² to 1.5 mm² thermocouple wire (approximately 24 to 16 AWG)
• Optional miniature or full-size thermocouple connectors
• Connector type specified to suit thermocouple type (K, N, T, etc.)

These options allow direct connection without adapters, reducing unwanted junctions and simplifying laboratory wiring.

Typical Applications

The flexible termination and configuration options of TRU² make it suitable for a wide range of calibration and measurement environments, including ISO 17025 accredited laboratories. From high-channel laboratory systems to compact bench installations, TRU² can be configured to match existing wiring practices, reduce unnecessary junctions, and integrate cleanly into both manual and automated setups.

• Accredited calibration laboratories
• National metrology institutes
• Instrument and sensor manufacturers
• Industrial calibration and QA facilities
• Research and development laboratories
