The New Generation That Replaces the Original microK

A new chapter built on nearly twenty years of trusted measurement

What microK² Brings Forward

For almost two decades, the original microK has been a reference instrument for precision thermometry. It became the tool of choice not only for national metrology institutes but also for accredited laboratories, oceanography, research organisations and users who needed dependable, long-term accuracy. These instruments remain in service today, delivering the stability and confidence their owners rely on. microK² honours that trust with a platform shaped for the next generation of temperature measurement.

We recognised that standing still was not an option. The original microK had served laboratories exceptionally well, but technology and expectations had moved on. Processing capability had advanced, interfaces had evolved and we faced a clear choice: extend an ageing design or invest in a ground up redesign. We chose renewal, not superficial updates but a carefully re-engineered platform built to improve performance today and remain strong and maintainable long into the future.

The first two microK² models were introduced in late 2024, and are now followed by two additional models, completing the family. With the full line now established, we are pleased to retire the original microK and replace it with microK².

Enhanced accuracy and performance

The microK² family delivers ratio accuracies in the 30–300 ppb range depending on model, with the flagship ELITE conservatively specified at ≤30 ppb across the full measurement range (equivalent to 7.5 µK at the water triple point). In practice, every microK instrument we have produced has performed better than its published specification, and all microK² models maintain the same drift-free characteristic that made microK trusted for primary measurements.

Modern interface and usability

A 10-inch high-resolution touchscreen with anti-glare treatment brings clarity to high-precision work. Intuitive navigation, active channel indicators and the ability to pin key data on-screen make complex measurements more straightforward. Extensive internal memory supports comprehensive data logging without requiring external systems.

Expanded capability

Four input channels, expandable to 93 with microsKanner units. Increased keep-warm current to 14.2 mA for broader self-heating determination. Three internal reference resistors, expandable to eight. microK² supports SPRTs, industrial PRTs, thermocouples and thermistors.

Future-proof connectivity

Ethernet, three USB ports, two RS232 serial ports and an IEEE-488 interface support integration with modern laboratory systems. Enhanced remote commands make automated workflows and database-driven operation easier to implement.

Proven through independent validation

Every microK² is tested with our Ratio Bridge Calibrator during production. Independent assessments by national laboratories confirm that performance meets or exceeds published specifications.

Built for the Long Term

Existing microK instruments remain fully supported for service and recalibration. The microK community is part of the Isotech story, and microK² has been shaped with those users in mind.

The solid-state design with no moving parts, automated optical inspection during manufacturing and calibration in our ISO 17025 accredited laboratory support the reliability that laboratories expect when investing in long-term measurement infrastructure.
